-looks up from where he was reading to see what all the noise was about and sees Lily a few tables over. Unwittingly makes eye contact with her before hurriedly burying himself behind his book, cursing himself for doing so and hoping she didn’t see him staring-

-stiffens a bit when her eyes catch Severus’ and quickly looks down at her text, cheeks flushing before she furiously wipes at her ink-stained cheek- 

[Severus cursed to himself again as he realized that he was trapped. Sitting in the corner of the library had many advantages, but ease of escape was certainly not among them. Sitting in the one unavoidable table in his path was the one girl Severus had to avoid contact with at all costs. Severus tried to find a way to avoid interacting with her, for his own sake. He had do so for months and it had worked well, not really seeing her, not speaking since their last fight at the start of term. Things were better this way, he often told himself. He needed to keep his image, afterall. And having a Gryffindor, not mention a Muggleborn, friend would not do him much help.

Severus was expected in the common room later that evening, otherwise he would have simply waited until Lily left. He might have been able to get past her without a word, but he couldn’t, not for the life of him. He longed to hear the voice of his former best friend once more, and seeing how any space well within earshot was void of life, perhaps this was his chance. Even a few simple words would be enough.]

-gathers his things and stands up, takes a deep breath before heading towards the door, towards Lily-

Uh..hello, Lily.

I wasn’t aware it was much of a secret, considering the audience to her earlier spectacle.

I wasn’t aware of the volume of the crowd. I was more focused on Josephine’s confession and how she never told me of this “relationship.”

Look, as much as I’d love to sit and hear you go on about whatever teenaged angst you have and rant about whatever frivilous troubles are clouding your deluded mind, the fact of the matter is that I could not care less. People are shit. Know that, and you’ll be set.

Unless you have something of substance to discuss, I’d rather not waste any more time on meaningless chatter. Nothing personal to you, but I prefer to spend my time more efficiently.
